**A Road Through History**

A particularly important discovery is the remains of old road that connected the Valjevo and Pozega basins. The fortifications were likely built to protect the road, travelers, and from attackers and robbers.

“The fortification was built to protect the road,” says Nevena Pavlovic from the Institute the Protection of Cultural Monuments in Valjevo. “It was a way to surveil and signal with other fortifications along the old road.”
