**Russia Prepares for New Offensive in Ukraine**
Russia is likely to launch a new attack on Ukraine in the coming weeks, according to Ukrainian analysts and G7 diplomatic sources. This move could strengthen Russia’s position in potential peace talks with Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that Moscow plans to attack the Sumy and Kharkiv oblasts this spring. Capturing more Ukrainian territory would likely encourage Russian President Vladimir Putin to seek harsher conditions in a potential peace deal.
Moscow has rejected a full 30-day truce agreed upon by the US and Ukraine, but has agreed to a partial ceasefire on strikes against energy facilities and in the Black Sea. However, Kyiv has accused Russia of violating this agreement.
Zelensky believes that Putin is stalling for time to allow his troops to grab more land. A Ukrainian military analyst estimates that Russia’s upcoming offensive operations could last between six and nine months.
