Consultations on treating drug addiction are ongoing in Georgia. This is according to Archil Gorduladze, an MP from the “Georgian Dream” party and head of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs.
Gorduladze said that there have been many questions from the public about how to treat people with drug addiction. He stated that these consultations will help make clear what treatment methods are best for people struggling with this issue.
The Georgian government is proposing new laws to crack down on drug dealers and provide alternative solutions for those with addiction problems. This includes the possibility of forcing treatment for some individuals.
A bill related to these proposals has already been read in parliament once. The proposed changes affect eight different laws, including those that deal with crime and punishment. New articles will be added to make it clearer what the penalties are for drug-related offenses.
