**Armenia Moves Closer to EU Membership**
The Armenian government has taken a positive stance on a bill that could lead to the country‘s accession process with the European Union. The draft law was submitted as a citizens’ initiative and is now being considered by Armenia’s parliament.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that even if the bill passes, the accession process can only start if the Armenian people support it in a referendum. He also stressed that the country should focus on developing practical steps, such as visa liberalization, before proceeding with EU membership.
Yerevan has been trying to build closer ties with the EU amid deteriorating relations with Russia. In October 2023, Pashinyan spoke at the European Parliament and said that Armenia is ready to align more closely with the bloc. However, he expressed doubts about whether the country is ready for full membership.
