The Central Election Commission of Armenia has finished counting the votes from all polling stations. According to the initial results, the Civil Contract party, led by Nikol Pashinyan, is in the lead with 53.92% of the vote. In second place is the election bloc of former president Robert Kocharyan, ‘Armenia,’ with 21.04%. The third spot is held by the election bloc ‘I have honor,’ which received 5.23% of the vote. Gagik Tsarukyan’s bloc, ‘Prosperous Armenia,’ received 4.1% of the vote.
Out of the 2,593,572 potential voters, only 1,281,174 citizens, or 49.4%, participated in the elections, according to the Central Election Commission.
Based on these preliminary results, Pashinyan announced that his party will have a constitutional majority in the newly-elected parliament, with at least 71 out of 105 seats. He also stated that his party will form the government under his leadership.
However, these results have been met with criticism and controversy. Many citizens are unhappy with the current government and believe that the elections were not fair and transparent. There have been reports of voter intimidation and fraud, casting doubt on the legitimacy of the results.
Despite these concerns, Pashinyan’s party is set to maintain a strong hold on the government, which has caused further frustration and disappointment among the opposition and the general public. It remains to be seen how this election will impact the future of Armenia and its government.
