At least 102 Ukrainian prisoners of war were executed by Russia, says the Ombudsman

According to data provided by the Prosecutor General’s Office, Dmytro Lubints, Ukraine’s Ombudsman in an Oct. 18 interview, cited by the Prosecutor General’s Office.
According to Lubinets the actual number of cases is likely to be much higher, since it is difficult for Russian war crimes to be documented without supporting evidence like videos of executions.
In the past year, there have been numerous reports of Russian soldiers executing POWs. Social media resurfaced with videos and photos that provided evidence of the crimes. These included drone footage of the POWs being shot as they surrendered their weapons to Russian troops as well as photos and videos of bodies of Ukrainian soldiers, which suggested torture and violent deaths in captivity.
Lubinets said Ukrainian authorities should document cases as much as they can and send the evidence to the Russian Federation Commissioner for Human Rights.
Lubinets stated that “in opinion, the main cause (of the executions) was that the Russian military did everything possible to ensure that Russian soldiers had no desire to surrender to Ukraine.”
Lubinets claims that also kill prisoners in order to show their disregard for international laws. “They want to demonstrate that they will not be punished (by the international communities),” he continued.
Lubinets stated that “this is a deliberate Russian policy, but international organisations turn a blind-eye.”
“I see no legal or public reaction to these events. There are still no arrest warrants issued for war criminals,” said he.
According to Dmytro Lubinets, it is likely that the actual number of cases is much higher because it is difficult for Russian war crimes to be documented without supporting evidence like videos of the executions.
