**Ukraine Shoots Down Most Russian Drones in Overnight Assault**
Russian forces launched a massive drone attack on Ukraine overnight, but the country‘s air defenses were able to shoot down most of them. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, 51 out of 87 Russian drones were destroyed or disabled.
The drones, including Shahed-type UAVs and others, were deployed from Russia and occupied Crimea. They targeted residential areas and civilian infrastructure in several regions, killing nine people, including an eight-year-old boy, in Sumy Oblast.
**Casualties and Damage**
In Hlukhiv, Sumy Oblast, a dormitory was hit by two Shahed drones, killing nine people and injuring 11. Two children were among the injured. The attack also damaged apartment buildings and a hospital. Rescue operations are ongoing to find four people who might be trapped under the rubble.
In Zaporizhzhia Oblast, more than 10 Shahed drones targeted energy infrastructure, leaving over 15,000 consumers without power. However, electricity has been restored to nearly 2,000 customers.
**Russia Continues Air Assaults**
This attack is part of Russia’s ongoing campaign to disrupt civilian life in Ukraine, particularly during the winter months. Since October 2022, Russian forces have targeted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure with missile and drone assaults. The latest attack was aimed at multiple energy facilities across Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported air defense activity in several regions, including Kyiv City and Cherkasy Oblast. One UAV remains in Ukrainian airspace as combat operations continue.
