The Central Election Commission has not yet considered the cancellation of polling stations in Israel.
Giorgi Kalandarishvili made the relevant statements at the CEC session. He presented to his colleagues an appeal from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, asking the CEC to close the polling stations in Israel for the safety of Georgians.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs requested that the CEC provide us with information about the current situation in Israel in relation to the existence of a precinct for elections in Tel Aviv. The letter we received provided us with information on the current situation in Israel and the risks that may exist, including those related to the day of the election. In this case, we are referring to the fact that it is mandatory for people to be placed in the “in cover” in the event of a signal. The same applies to the fact that, during the October 1 bombing, employees of the embassy were required to remain in the protected room. The alarm signal can be repeated multiple times. The risks and circumstances have been identified. This means that, if the polling stations are maintained as they are, the alarm could theoretically be sounded several times on voting day. This would make it impossible for the voting to take place. There are 15 days until the elections. The precinct can be canceled at any time, but it cannot be restored or returned. Kalandarishvili said that he thought it was a good idea for the commission to carry on its work at this time.
