Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry announced on December 18 that Australia will soon fully resume operations at its embassy in Kyiv. This decision was made during a visit by Foreign Minister Penny Wong to Ukraine. The two ministers met with counterpart to discuss expanding Australia’s support for Ukraine.

**Increased Military Aid**

Australia has committed to supplying Ukraine with 49 and 14 patrol boats. This brings the total amount of Australian assistance to over $1 billion, including $880 million in military aid. The aid package also includes €50 million to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which will enable Ukraine to access nearly $400 million in additional loans over the next 10 years.

**Concerns Over Russia-North Korea **

The talks between Wong and Sybiha focused on the growing threats posed by deepening cooperation between Russia and North Korea. Sybiha emphasized that supporting Ukraine is in Australia’s direct interest as it strengthens not only in Europe but also in the Indo-Pacific region.
