**Russia to Stop Gas Supply to Austria**
Gazprom Export, a Russian company, will stop supplying natural gas to Austria on November 16. This was announced by OMV, the largest gas supplier in Austria.
OMV said it had expected this to happen and would continue to import gas from other European countries like Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands.
**Russia’s Gas Business**
Russia has made billions of dollars from selling natural gas to Europe, including to Austria. The country has a deal with Ukraine to transport its gas through Ukrainian pipelines. However, this deal is set to expire at the end of the year.
Ukraine will not renew the agreement, which means Russia will have to find other ways to supply its gas.
**Europe Reduces Dependence on Russian Gas**
Since the start of the war in Ukraine, European countries have tried to reduce their dependence on Russian gas. The share of Russian gas imported by EU countries has dropped from 45% in 2021 to 15% last year.
Austria had been importing a lot of its gas from Russia, with a record 98% of its imports coming from Russia in December 2023. However, the country has promised to stop importing Russian gas by 2027.
**No Worries About Gas Supply**
Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer said that Austria’s gas supply is secure and no one will freeze because the country has enough stored gas and can get more from other regions.
OMV was recently awarded $243 million by an international court after it won a case against Gazprom due to irregularities in gas supplies.
