Serhii Dobriak told Suspilne that the military administration in Pokrovsk is preparing to block off parts of the city due to preparations for defense.
In recent months, the beleaguered front-line city Pokrovsk was at the center of Russia’s offensive against Donetsk. The city is an important logistics hub for Ukrainian forces.
Dobriak said that “fortifications are being constructed in Pokrovsk and we are already entering this city. Certain areas of the town will be blocked so please do not enter or leave the city.”
“Several echelons are already built in the city which will partially block streets and neighborhoods of Pokrovsk.”
Dobriak clarified earlier remarks made national television that entry and exit to the city would not be completely blocked.
Dobriak made the announcement after reports that Russia had captured , a nearby town. Although Ukraine has not confirmed the claims, a Kyiv Independent expert said that Selydove was “lost.”
Pokrovsk is only 18 kilometers (11miles) to the northwest. The loss of Selydove will be devastating for Pokrovsk. forces have been gaining ground in Pokrovsk over the past two months, despite mounting losses.
Dobriak stated that much of the city’s infrastructure has been destroyed.
“The infrastructure has been destroyed to 80%.” He said that while power is available in 60% Pokrovsk and six settlements, it was not available in Rodynske or the town of Rodynske.
“We have a city hospital, family doctors and a Dobropillia for the wounded. There are 325 water wells in the town, including nine points where you can get free drinking-water. UNICEF and the utility company deliver water.
Dobriak reports that as of October 30, 2011, there were 11,900 people in Pokrovsk, including 55 children. Evacuations continue.
Pokrovsk was home to 60,000 people before the full-scale Russian invasion in February 2022.

Authorities said that the attack destroyed the entrance from the first to fifth floors of a nine-story building. At least 29 people were hurt, including a child.
