**Ukrainian Activist Assassinated in Odesa, Suspect Detained**
A prominent Ukrainian activist was shot dead in the city of Odesa on March 14. Demyan Hanul, a 31-year-old blogger and founder of the Street Front NGO, was killed by a gunman who then fled the scene.
**Investigation Underway**
Hours after the murder, law enforcement officials detained a suspect. According to Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, a weapon allegedly used in the crime was found in the apartment where the detainee was hiding. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) claims that the suspect is a 46-year-old deserter.
**President Zelensky Promises Thorough Investigation**
President Volodymyr Zelensky has instructed law enforcement officials to throw all necessary resources into investigating the murder. “I have instructed the interior minister, the head of the Security Service, the acting prosecutor general to throw all the necessary forces and means to establish all the facts,” he said.
**Russia‘s Involvement Suspected**
The SBU did not rule out Russia’s involvement in the murder. Hanul had previously reported threats against his life, including a $10,000 bounty offered by Russian sources for an attack on him.
