According to the Azov Brigade, the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Russian soldiers executed three Ukrainian servicemen who surrendered in Donetsk Oblast. Drone footage released in evidence shows three people with green armbands coming out of a basement and lying down. They are then shot.
This is the second video this week that shows the mass executions of Ukrainian POWs. If confirmed, this would be another Russian war crimes.
The incident occurred near New York, a town located close to Donetsk which was captured by Russian forces in August. The exact date is unknown.

Azov reported fighters from the 12th Special Purpose Brigade Azov, and the 49th Separate Assault Battalion captured and interrogated a member of the Russian group that was responsible for the executions.
A captured Russian soldier’s interview, posted on the brigade YouTube channel, discusses the practice of executing Ukrainian prisoners of war within the Russian army.
Dmytro Lubinets, the Ukrainian Ombudsman, has contacted the UN as well as the International Committee of the Red Cross to urge them to document this violation of the Geneva Convention on POW Treatment.
“Such actions violate human rights and are unacceptable.” The Russian high command encourages the behavior of Russian soldiers. Lubinets wrote in Telegram: “We must investigate and document every crime to ensure that the appropriate punishment is administered.”
The Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation on 3 September after a video showed the execution of three Ukrainian Soldiers near New York. It’s not clear if this is the same incident as reported by Azov.
The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine announced on 1 October that Russian forces had executed 16 surrendered Ukrainian soldiers near Pokrovsk, in Donetsk Oblast. This was the largest case of Ukrainian soldiers being executed at the frontline.
