Banksy: Birth of an Icon is the first exhibition the Georgian Museum of Fine Arts hosts to celebrate its 5th anniversary.
This exposition curated by Steve Lazarides will take you through the outstanding works of legendary British graffiti artists Banksy. You will be able enjoy the art created by this mysterious artist who continues to surprise people around the globe. This exhibition will trace his satirical and subversive street art through works on canvas, sculpture and street blinders.
Steve Lazarides stated: “This journey with Banksy encompasses an artistic partnership that lasted for nearly twelve years. I was his photographer, manager, driver and more. I met Banksy in 1997, when he was a young Bristol graffiti artist. This exhibition shows Banksy’s journey from the beginning. You can enjoy his work from two different angles. Documentary photos taken by myself will show you how it all began, and his originals will show how far Banksy’s transcended the limits and how far ahead he was. As you progress through the exhibition you will gradually see why the art world idolizes him, and what makes this vandal into a cult.
Along with Banksy originals, Georgian artists include Gagosha Mishiko Sulukauri Semichka Koska and Sick’n tired. Their work reflects their style and influence on Georgian culture. The museum aims to allow people to’meet legend’ Banksy and support Georgian street art.
This exhibition will be on display at the Georgian Museum of Fine Arts for four months starting October 18.
