On the basis of an appeal from the Central Election Commission of Georgia, the Government of Georgia declared October 25 a public holiday.
According to information from the Central Election Commission (CEC), the decision was made by the government based on a request to the CEC. The CEC had stated that, because the polling station are located in public kindergartens and schools, the activity during working days could hinder the timely setup of the polling station.
The CEC explains the importance of the precincts for the functioning of the precincts of the next Parliamentary elections of Georgia. This is done the day before voting. On this day, all the necessary equipment and inventory will be placed in the precincts.
“Of the 3,031 precincts in existence, 483 are located in kindergartens, 1,675 are in public schools, and 873 are in other buildings.” In light of the fact that in kindergartens and public schools, where many election precincts reside, various activities are conducted on working days which can interfere with the timely and peaceful setup of the precincts. It is therefore requested to declare the 25th October 2024 a public holiday.
