**Georgian Opposition Leader and Journalist Attacked**
Giorgi Gakharia, the leader of the For Georgia party, was physically assaulted on January 15 at a hotel in Batumi. He suffered a broken nose and concussion. The attack is believed to have been orchestrated by Ivanishvili‘s regime.
**Multiple Incidents**
There were two separate incidents that night. Zviad Koridze, a journalist and member of Transparency International (TI)-Georgia, was also attacked at the same hotel. He was hospitalized with an eye injury.
**Investigation**
An investigation has been opened into Gakharia’s case under Article 126 of the Criminal Code for violence. However, it is not yet known whether an investigation will be opened in Koridze’s case.
**Reactions**
Public Defender Levan Ioseliani condemned the attacks and called on authorities to investigate immediately. President Salome Zurabishvili also condemned the attack, calling it “absolutely unbelievable” and “unacceptable”. The German ambassador to Georgia described the situation as a “sad day in Georgia”.
