**Free Public Transport in Belgrade**
As of January 1, 2025, public transport in Belgrade will be free for everyone. This change was announced by the city’s mayor, Aleksandar Sapic.
He said that making public transport free is a social measure to help people who need it most. However, he didn’t say exactly how much money the city will have to spend on this initiative.
**Current Costs**
The city already spends 250 million euros each year to subsidize public transport. The mayor thinks that making it free will cost “several tens of millions” more per year.
**Dynamic Timetable**
Belgrade’s current bus schedule is fixed and doesn’t change often. However, the mayor said that a new dynamic timetable will be introduced soon. This means that buses will run at different times depending on how busy they are.
The mayor thinks this change is necessary because traffic in Belgrade has gotten much worse over the years. It’s now harder to keep the fixed schedule that was created when traffic was less congested.
