**Students March to Belgrade**
Thousands of students from all over Serbia arrived in the capital city on Friday evening. They had been walking for days, some by bicycle and others on foot, to take part in a mass student-led protest.
The students were greeted with cheers and applause as they entered the city. A red carpet was laid out for them at Terazije Square, where they were welcomed with hugs and smiles. There was also a fireworks display to celebrate their arrival.
Some of the students had walked from far away using tractors decorated with Serbian flags. They made their way to Terazije Square, where they joined thousands of other students who had already arrived.
The protests are demanding that the government take responsibility for a tragedy in November 2024, when a concrete canopy collapsed at a train station in Novi Sad, killing 15 people and injuring two more. The students want the government to release documents about the reconstruction of the train station, to punish those who assaulted protesters, and to give them a bigger budget.
A mother whose son was killed in the tragedy said that the students’ protests had united Serbia. She thanked them for fighting for justice and asked others to stand with them.
The students will hold a protest rally on Saturday in front of the Serbian Parliament building.
