Ukrinform reported that German government spokesperson Steffen Hbestreit gave a briefing to address critical questions regarding Germany’s military assistance for Ukraine. Hebestreit stressed that the delays in weapon supply are not primarily due to financial reasons, but rather system availability constraints.
The comment follows recent remarks made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy who noted that air defence systems pledged by Ukraine’s Allies are only partially delivered amid intensified Russian aerial attacks. Zelenskyy noted that only 10% of the US aid approved by Congress in earlier this year had arrived.
The spokesperson said:
The question is not “will something be delivered?” but rather, the extent of delivery that can be achieved. There are always limits, not because of our ability to finance but due to the availability and cost of weapons.
Hebestreit confirmed Germany’s ongoing efforts to maintain an consistent weapon supply, revealing that most recent aid package has been delivered two weeks ago. Berlin is actively reviewing possible military support options, and encourages partner countries to do the same.
