**US Provides $2.5 Billion in Security Assistance to Ukraine**
The US government has announced a new security assistance package for Ukraine worth nearly $2.5 billion. The package includes a $1.25 billion “drawdown package” of military equipment and $1.22 billion under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI).
**Military Aid to Support Ukraine’s Defense Strategy**
The resources will provide immediate and long-term military support, including air defense systems, artillery, and other critical weaponry. The aid is aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s hand as it heads into winter.
**Continued US Support for Ukraine**
President Joe Biden has directed his administration to continue surging assistance to Ukraine, drawing down older US equipment, rapidly delivering it to the battlefield, and revitalizing the US defense industrial base to modernize and replenish stockpiles with new weapons.
**US Provides Additional Funding**
The announcement comes just weeks before Donald Trump takes office. The US has provided more than $60 billion in military aid to Ukraine under the Biden administration. In a separate move, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced that the US will provide an additional $15 billion to Ukraine, backed by future revenues from frozen Russian assets.
**Russia Continues to Launch Drone Attacks**
Meanwhile, Russia has used 43 drones against Ukraine overnight, with two drones hitting Kyiv’s Darnytsia district. The Ukrainian Air Force reported the attacks on December 30.
