**Ceasefire Reached in Israel-Hezbollah Conflict**
The US President, Joe Biden, has announced a ceasefire to end the 13-month conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. The fighting along the border between Lebanon and Israel will stop at 4:00 tomorrow local time (02:00 GMT Wednesday).
**Agreement Details**
Under the deal, Israel will gradually withdraw from Lebanon’s southern region as Lebanese forces regain control over an area currently held by Hezbollah. Hezbollah fighters are expected to be removed along with their weapons from the area south of the Litani River.
**US and France Monitoring**
The US and France will monitor the implementation of this deal, saying that it “will create conditions for lasting calm” and allow residents to return safely to their homes in both countries.
**Israel’s Right to Self-Defense**
President Biden has reiterated Israel’s right to self-defense consistent with international law. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel will attack Hezbollah if it violates the agreement or tries to arm itself.
**Impact on Hamas**
Netanyahu said that ending the fighting in Lebanon will also isolate Hamas and increase pressure. He stated that without Hezbollah, Hamas will be on its own.
**Repercussions of the Conflict**
The conflict has been devastating, with over 3,823 deaths, 15,859 wounded, and 1 million residents displaced. The economic losses and damages in Lebanon are estimated to be $8.5 billion.
**Future Uncertainty**
Hezbollah’s future is still unclear, as much of its infrastructure has been damaged. Its leaders have been killed, and the group’s influence may be limited by opponents who see this as an opportunity to reduce their power.
