**US Intelligence Document Reveals Russia‘s Suspected Assassination Attempts**
A US intelligence document, obtained by Bloomberg through the Freedom of Information Act, has revealed Russia’s suspected attempts to assassinate political adversaries abroad. The document, dated 2016, suggests that Moscow was likely to continue such actions.
The document lists well-known cases of alleged Kremlin-ordered assassinations, including the murder of Alexander Litvinenko, a former FSB agent who defected to the UK in 2006. Litvinenko accused Putin’s regime of various crimes and had ties to organized crime before his death from radiation poisoning. British intelligence concluded that Russia likely carried out the assassination.
The document also mentions Viktor Yushchenko, the former Ukrainian President who was poisoned during the 2004 presidential election campaign. Although it does not directly implicate Moscow in his poisoning, it notes that his supporters believe Moscow was behind the attack. Yushchenko survived and went on to lead the Orange Revolution, a public uprising sparked by mass election fraud.
The US intelligence document suggests that Russia’s willingness to target people abroad is ongoing, including Caucasus rebels, intelligence defectors, and dissidents.
