**Russia Considering Truce in Ukraine**
Russian President Vladimir Putin may agree to a truce in Ukraine if certain conditions are met. This was reported by Bloomberg on March 7.
The idea of a truce has been discussed for some time. Russian and US officials met in Saudi Arabia on February 18 to talk about ending Russia’s war against Ukraine. However, Russia has previously made ultimatums to Ukraine rather than offering concessions.
According to Bloomberg, Putin is open to a temporary peace settlement if progress can be made towards a final peace plan. The Kremlin wants to organize a framework for a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine, which would involve deciding what countries would participate.
**Conditions for Truce**
For fighting to stop, there needs to be a clear understanding of the final peace plan, including its structure and principles. This is something that both sides agree on.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has proposed a truce in the sky and sea, as well as the release of prisoners of war. US and Ukrainian officials are due to meet in Saudi Arabia soon to discuss this further.
**US and Russia at Odds**
However, there is disagreement between the US and Russia about how to proceed. President Trump said he was considering implementing sweeping sanctions against Russia until a ceasefire and peace plan is reached. He also accused Ukraine of being more difficult to deal with than Russia.
