**Ukraine’s DTEK Plans LNG Import Deal**
Ukraine’s largest private energy company, DTEK, is negotiating with several sellers for a two-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) import contract. CEO Maxim Timchenko said the company expects to finalize and announce the deal within the next two months.
**US-Based Suppliers in Talks**
Most potential partners are based in the US. DTEK is also exploring longer-term agreements of 10 to 20 years with suppliers from the Middle East. However, specific suppliers were not disclosed as negotiations are still in their early stages.
**Building a Long-Term Business**
“We want to build a medium-term and long-term business,” Timchenko said. The company aims to make Ukraine an off-taker of gas with storage facilities. This is part of DTEK’s strategy to increase the country’s energy independence.
**Previous Deals**
In June 2024, DTEK signed its first major deal with US-based Venture Global to supply LNG to Ukraine for two years. The company successfully imported Ukraine’s first US LNG shipment through a Greek terminal in December.
