Biden will be at the helm of a Ukraine Contact Group Summit at Ramstein Air Base, Germany.
Bloomberg, citing a German government official, reports that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is hosting US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron in Berlin on the 12th of October. This meeting will be held before the Ukraine Contact Group’s meeting at Ramstein Air Base.
This meeting takes place at a critical point in Russia’s conflict with Ukraine. Leaders are under pressure to continue peace talks despite the stark differences between Ukrainians and Russians, as the outcome is uncertain and Western support is in doubt.
Bloomberg reports that the leaders will reaffirm the military and financial support they provide to Ukraine and discuss possible paths to a “just and sustainable peace” for the country.
After the Berlin summit, the four leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will meet with approximately 20 other head of state at the Ramstein Air Base to attend the Ukraine Contact Group Summit. Zelenskyy will likely present Ukraine’s ‘victory plan,’ a strategy that was previously shared with Washington but has not been publicly revealed in Ukraine.
Karine Jean-Pierre, White House Press Secretary, said that Biden’s Germany trip was primarily focused on ensuring continued support for Ukraine as it counters Russian aggression.
The package includes long-range munitions and F-16 pilot education. New sanctions also target Russia’s cryptocurrency networks and defense industry.
