EU Officials Criticized for Allowing Serbian President to Block Journalist
The Balkan Free Media Initiative has criticized leading European Commission officials. They allowed Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic to block a journalist from his news conference.
Vucic met with EU leaders in Brussels. After the meeting, he held a news conference. However, N1′s correspondent Nikola Radisic was not invited. This happened even though European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen had reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to press freedom just minutes before.
The BMFI said on social media: “The European Union speaks of media freedom. Yet Vucic’s playbook unfolds right under its nose.” The group is calling out the EU for not doing enough to protect journalists’ rights.
