EU Freezes Funds for Georgian Government
The European Union (EU) is freezing more than 100 million euros meant for the government of Georgia. This money will now go to civil society organizations instead.
This decision was made by Josep Borrell, the EU’s top official for foreign affairs. He wants to help people in Georgia fight for fair elections.
Borrell said that while some EU programs in Georgia would be suspended, others would continue. These programs support people who want a free and fair vote.
The money will go to groups helping ordinary people, not just the government. This way, it can reach more people and help them have their voices heard.
What’s happening in Georgia is very important, said Borrell. He wants the Georgian government to change its ways so that the country can move closer to joining the EU.
