Borrell: EU mission for training Ukrainian military to be extended by two years

, EU Representative for foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said 14th October that Europe will prolong the EU Training Mission mandate for the Ukrainian Military for the next two-years.
According the decision was taken when ministers met to discuss the extension of the EU Training Mission for Ukrainian (EUMAM).
The EU Training Mission for Ukraine (EUMAM) is a program that was established by the European Union on October 20, 2022, to provide training to Ukrainian military personnel. The mission is primarily in Poland and Germany. It offers instruction to Ukrainian servicemen in order to improve their capabilities as a response to Russia’s invasion.
Borrell stressed the urgent need for this extension. He said that “the Ukrainian Armed Forces [are] under great pressure along the whole front line,” and that the front line has grown since early summer.
The top EU diplomat addressed the issue of the blocked funds from the European Facility that are used to reimburse members states for military assistance provided to Ukraine. Borrell said that the EU is “almost” at the point of unblocking funds, but he couldn’ make a specific announcement.
Borrell promised that he would visit Ukraine once the necessary decision had been . He said he would visit Ukraine before the end his mandate.
Borrell said previously that the EU does not support EUMAM on Ukrainian territory, but agreed to conduct training as near to Ukrainian borders as possible to maximize its effectiveness.
