After a state funeral attended by world leaders and a historic final ceremonial walk through London’s packed streets, Queen Elizabeth II was laid to rest in her sleep on Monday.
The end of an era is near as Britain prepares to lay to rest Queen Elizabeth II, its longest-serving royal.
The royal family joined more than 2,000 dignitaries for the state funeral, after escorting Queen Elizabeth’s coffin from Westminster Abbey to Westminster Abbey.
The King Charles III, his siblings and the Queen’s grandson Princes William and Harry led the solemn procession through the British capital. Huge crowds lined the streets.
Elizabeth will then make her final journey to Windsor where she’ll be buried with her late husband, Prince Philip. This will take place just over a month after his death.
The last state funeral in Britain was held in 1965 for Winston Churchill, the wartime Prime Minister of Britain.
The longest-serving British monarch died at Balmoral, a Scottish Highland retreat on September 8, after a year in declining health.
