**British Medic Speaks Out After Losing Leg and Arm in Ukraine Attack**
A 28-year-old British medic who lost his leg and arm in a suspected drone attack while volunteering in Ukraine has spoken to the BBC about the incident. Eddy, whose surname is not being reported, says he feels “lucky” despite his severe injuries.
Eddy was driving an evacuation vehicle marked with clear signs of its purpose when it came under attack on January 30th. He remembers seeing three bright flashes around the van and realizing that his leg had been severely injured. Despite this, his first thought was to keep driving and continue evacuating people from the front-line town of Pokrovsk.
**The Attack**
Eddy tried to put the car in gear but found it wasn’t moving. His left leg wasn’t responding, and he couldn’t see his arm turning on the wheel. At that point, he realized the situation was critical. Despite this, Eddy remained calm and continued trying to drive.
**Support and Recovery**
Eddy has been grateful for the support he’s received from friends, family, and peers since the attack. He credits his amazing support network with keeping him positive despite losing two limbs. In fact, Eddy says he’s more determined than ever to continue volunteering in Ukraine.
**Regrets? None**
When asked if he had any regrets, Eddy replied “nothing.” He said that if sacrificing an arm and a leg meant having a life here, then so be it. Eddy’s family has been struggling to understand why he chose to volunteer in Ukraine, but his father is due to visit him next week.
**Background**
Eddy has been working as a combat medic for the last year, supporting Kyiv with Base UA, an aid group. He credits their field coordinator with saving his life during the attack. The charity has accused Russia of shelling humanitarian and civilian organizations in Pokrovsk every day.
