The Bulgarian parliament supports Georgia being given the status of a Candidate Country of the European Union. This is stated in the relevant statement, which was adopted with a majority vote by the Bulgarian legislative organ during the visit of Minister of Foreign Affairs Ilia Darchiashvili to the city Sofia. The declaration was initiated by former prime ministers. Both parties in the coalition supported it. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia distributes information about this.
Information states that the declaration strongly supports the European and EuroAtlantic Integration of Georgia. This is based on a historical choice made by the Georgians and will be a further guarantee of the security of the country. The document states that the wide public support for Georgia’s geopolitical decisions makes its European integration inevitable.
The declaration also condemns Russia’s occupation of Georgian territory.
“In the document the Bulgarian side expresses once again its unwavering commitment to the territorial integrity of Georgia and its sovereignty and stresses the role of Georgia in the South Caucasus region and the Black Sea Region.
In the declaration, Bulgaria mentions that it attaches special significance to stable and successful neighboring countries, especially in light of the current security climate in the Black Sea Region.
The information states that “Bulgaria expresses its willingness to support Georgia’s democratic reforms.”
