**Canada Increases Support for Ukraine’s Energy Fund**
On March 14, Canada gave another $34.8 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund.
This is not the first time Canada has helped. Just a few days ago, it sent the first part of a $1.7 billion loan. The loan was paid for using Russian assets that were frozen by Canada.
Canada’s foreign minister said that Russia’s attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure are “ruthless”. Many people in Ukraine have lost electricity, water, and heat due to these attacks. Canada is helping to repair this critical infrastructure, the minister added.
**Total Contribution Over $41 Million**
Canada has now contributed over $41 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. It also said it will give an additional $7 million to the fund in the future.
The money from Canada will be used to help restore energy facilities and support critical infrastructure. This includes buying equipment necessary for restoring energy after enemy attacks, according to Ukraine’s energy minister.
**Helping Healthcare Sector**
Some of the new contribution will also go towards supporting the healthcare sector by developing solar energy. This is part of a larger effort to support critical social infrastructure in Ukraine.
Canada’s international development minister said that the added funding will help ensure the stable operation of the energy industry in Ukraine by restoring critical energy reserves for energy companies.
**Other Countries Supporting Ukraine**
Many countries have contributed to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund since its creation in 2022 with the help of the European Union. These include Iceland, which gave over $2 million on March 11, and Italy, which promised to contribute $13.5 million on February 28.
Regular Russian aerial attacks target civilian infrastructure, including energy services. Support from allies has been crucial in maintaining Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
