Canada Plans Sanctions on Georgian Officials and Organizations.
The Canadian government plans to impose sanctions on officials and organizations in Georgia. This was announced by the Canadian Foreign Minister, Melanie Joly, before a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels.
When asked if Canada would impose sanctions on Georgian government representatives, Melanie Joly said “yes” again. She mentioned that she had already stated this at a meeting in Riga the day before.
Canada’s decision to impose sanctions follows a previous announcement by Melanie Joly at a press conference with Latvia and Estonia’s foreign ministers and Lithuania‘s deputy foreign minister. At that time, she said Canada would punish individuals and business entities involved in human rights violations or corruption.
