Journalists Attacked at Pro-European Rallies in Georgia
Since November 28, there have been 147 cases of journalists being attacked or having their rights violated while covering pro-European rallies. This is according to the Center for Media, Information and Social Studies.
The center says that journalists, cameramen, and photographers have been obstructed from doing their job, verbally and physically abused, and had their equipment taken away or damaged. Some have even been fined for blocking roads while covering protests.
Many journalists have also faced harassment and firing for expressing a critical view of the government‘s actions. In total, 147 journalists have been targeted by the authorities in some way since November 28. This includes:
* 24 reporters who were injured multiple times or had their equipment damaged
* 17 journalists who were fined 5,000 GEL each for blocking roads
* Many others who faced harassment and firing
