Irakli Garibashvili continued his meetings with Charles Michel, the President of the European Council, in Brussels by attending a business lunch.
The main topic of the meeting was Georgia’s EU accession process. The dignitaries reviewed Georgia’s progress in implementing the 12 priorities set by the European Commission. They noted that the recognition of the European perspectives of the country was a historic decision. This highlighted the importance of granting Georgia the status of EU Candidate Country by the end the year.
During the discussion, special attention was given to the security infrastructure in the region as well as the grave humanitarian and safety situation in the occupied territory of Georgia. The discussion focused on the important role that Georgia plays in ensuring peace, stability and security in the region.
In the given circumstances the Prime Minister of Georgia highlighted the importance of EU’s engagement in the Black Sea Region, both in terms peace and security, and for the transport, infrastructure and energy links between Georgia and EU to be strengthened.
Garibashvili thanked Michel for his personal efforts in support of Georgia’s EU accession and for enabling Georgia’s European Perspective.
