Charles Michel, President of the European Council said that after the Georgian parliamentary elections, he would include the issue on the agenda of an informal meeting of European Council in Budapest.
“We note the OSCE/ODIHR’s preliminary assessment and urge the Central Election Commission, and other relevant institutions to do their duty by investigating and evaluating election violations and allegations quickly, transparently and independent. These alleged violations need to be investigated and eliminated,” Michel says.
According to him the European Union continues to call on the leadership of Georgia, to demonstrate a strong commitment to the country’s path to European Union. “We reiterate the call of European Union to the Georgian leadership to demonstrate their strong commitment to the country’s path to European Union as well as in compliance with the conclusions of European Council in June & October. The statement stated that a constructive and inclusive dialogue across all political spectrums is now paramount.
Charles Michel said that the European Council would assess the situation and determine the next steps for Georgia’s relations in November.
