There are serious suspicions about the elections that were conducted, and an investigation is needed. We need clarity about this process to ensure that everything was conducted fairly, and transparently – said Charles Michel, President of the European Council in Budapest, prior to the informal meeting of leaders of EU member states.
According to him the Georgians sincerely aspired to join the European Union and the European Union took a very significant decision when it granted this country the status as a candidate.
“We made an important decision as the European Union by granting Georgia the candidate status. There are serious suspicions about fraud in the elections that were conducted, and an investigation is needed. “We need clarity to ensure that everything is done fair and transparently,” said Michel.
According to him, EU leader will discuss current situation in Georgia.
“We will evaluate the current situation, and the European leaders are going to send a clear signal,” said Michel.
