Russian forces attacked Ukraine’s energy infrastructure on Christmas Day, firing over 170 missiles and drones. One of the workers at a power plant was killed.
The attack happened on December 25th. Russian forces used missiles from air, land, and sea platforms, as well as Shahed-type drones to target Ukraine’s fuel and energy sector.
A worker named Dmytro Petlenko was killed in the attack. He worked for DTEK, a Ukrainian company that runs thermal power plants. The company said Mr. Petlenko had dedicated 30 years of his life to working on energy projects.
The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said Russia launched over 70 missiles and more than 100 drones in the attack. He called it a deliberate act against Ukraine’s energy facilities.
Most of the incoming threats were intercepted by Ukraine’s air defenses. The country’s Air Force said they shot down 113 airborne targets. Another 52 failed to reach their destination.
The president also mentioned that some strikes hit their targets, causing power outages in several regions. He promised to restore electricity supply as quickly as possible.
