**Serbian Orthodox Church Celebrates Christmas**
The Serbian Orthodox Church is celebrating Christmas today, based on the Julian calendar. This marks the end of a 40-day winter fast that started in late November.
**Traditional Practices Continue**
In traditional Serbian fashion, people are greeting each other with “Christ is Born” and responding with “Truly Born”. Belgrade‘s bakers have made their famous big bread, containing 33 gold coins. The bread was broken into around 7,000 pieces and handed out to the crowd gathered in front of the St Sava Temple.
**Family Traditions**
On Christmas day, people are not leaving home, except for boys and men who visit friends, family, and neighbors. This is a time to bring good fortune and happiness to others. It’s also a day to resolve arguments and reconcile with loved ones. A traditional bread or cake is made with a coin inside it, and whoever gets the coin when the bread is broken will be lucky for the coming year.
