Two opposition groups, Coalition for Change and Unity UNM, have decided not to take part in the new parliament. They held special meetings on November 12 to announce their decision.
Coalition for Change leader Nika Gvaramia said that the current parliament is not legitimate. She stated that all 82 candidates from her party refuse to work with a government that stole the election and represents Russia’s interests. Each candidate has signed a letter asking the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) to cancel their candidacy.
Unity UNM leader Tinatin Bokuchava also announced her party’s decision not to join parliament. She said that Unity-UNM members renounced their mandates after the “rigged” election. The CEC will receive letters from each candidate on this matter.
Coalition for Change and Unity UNM had previously said they would not take part in parliament. However, today’s statements make it official. They have already signed documents that will be sent to the CEC.
Other opposition groups, Strong Georgia Coalition and Gakharia For Georgia, also exceeded the five percent threshold but have not yet made a decision about joining parliament.
