**Council of Europe Urges Georgia to Repeal Anti-LGBT Law**
The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe has called on Georgian authorities to repeal a law that restricts LGBT rights. The law, known as the “anti-LGBT law”, limits freedom of expression and assembly for people who identify as LGBTQ+.
**Committee’s Decision**
On March 6, the Committee of Ministers adopted an interim resolution in connection with cases against Georgia. In these cases, ministers urged Georgia to fight discrimination and hate crimes, as required by the European Convention on Human Rights. However, they failed to provide adequate protection against homophobic attacks and allowed official acquiescence or participation in such acts.
**Call to Action**
The Committee called on Georgian authorities to accelerate investigations into homophobic attacks and ensure that those responsible are held accountable. They also urged authorities to repeal the anti-LGBT law, which is seen as a step backward in implementing European Court rulings.
**Committee’s Recommendations**
The Committee strongly exhorted the authorities to reject discriminatory narratives and take resolute action against all forms of discrimination, hate speech, and hate crime. They also urged stronger protection and prevention measures for freedom of assembly and religion for all.
