**Opposition Parties Call on Council of Europe to Take Action**
Four main opposition forces in Georgia have issued a joint statement. They want the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) and the Committee of Ministers to do something about Alain Berset, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe.
Berset recently visited Georgia. He talked about amending the law on Foreign Agents. This made the opposition parties angry. They say Berset’s actions don‘t match the founding principles of the Council of Europe.

At a press briefing, Berset said he was willing to help amend the law. The opposition parties called this “irresponsible” and “incompatible with the spirit of the Council of Europe”. They say his actions are not in line with the guiding principles of the institution.
**Opposition Parties Want Reforms**
The opposition parties want the anti-democratic laws, including the Foreign Agents law, to be repealed. They also want guarantees for new elections. They stress that any solution must include the release of people who have been illegally detained.
**President Rejects Berset’s Proposal**
President Salome Zurabishvili has rejected Berset’s proposal. She says the real issue is not the law itself but the government in power, which she calls “Russian-style”. The President argues that any attempt to amend the law would only silence the people and end the ongoing protests.
