Council of Europe Concerned Over Tensions in Serbia
The Council of Europe has expressed concern over the escalating tensions in Serbia. Two officials, Axel Schäfer and Victoria Tiblom, are monitoring the situation.
They said that a large protest in Belgrade on March 15th was one of the biggest ever held in Serbia. The protesters observed a 15-minute silence, but then a loud noise caused a minor stampede. Some people were hurt during this incident.
The officials think it’s possible that “sound cannons” or LRADs (Long Range Acoustic Devices) might have been used to disperse the rally. They are concerned about this and want the authorities to investigate.
They called on all parties to talk to each other in a calm way and for the Serbian government to listen to the protesters’ demands. The officials also offered to travel to Serbia to discuss these issues with the authorities.
