**Council of Europe Warns of Risks to Media Freedom**

Journalists covering the war in Ukraine face serious risks, according to a new report by the Council of Europe’s (CoE) media protection platform. The report also warns of digital surveillance and disinformation threats in some European countries, including Serbia.
The CoE Safety of Journalists Platform report identified several serious threats to journalists, including:
* Digital surveillance and its risks to source confidentiality
* Transnational repression of journalists, particularly from Russia and Belarus
* Media capture by governments in some countries
The report says that the risks faced by journalists covering the war in Ukraine remain the most pressing concern for their safety in Europe.
Serbia was listed among the countries with the highest number of alerts, along with Ukraine and Russia. The platform registered around 2,000 alerts since its launch in 2015 until December 2024.
The report highlights several problems facing journalists in Serbia, including online harassment, particularly targeting women journalists. It also mentions a deep fake disinformation campaign launched against journalist Stevan Dojčinović and online hate messages directed at N1 TV reporter Vanja Djuric and Nova S TV reporter Zeljko Veljkovic.
