Concerns Raised Over Violence in Serbia
Two officials from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) are worried about what’s happening in Serbia. They’re concerned that tensions between different groups in the country are getting worse.
A big protest was held in Belgrade on March 15th, with over 100,000 people attending. The PACE officials say this is one of the biggest protests ever seen in Serbia. They also note that the majority of protesters were peaceful.
However, during a moment of silence at the protest, a strange noise suddenly interrupted it. This caused some panic among the crowd, and there are reports that dozens of people were treated for illnesses that might have been caused by sonic devices, known as “sound cannons.”
The PACE officials are concerned about these allegations and want the Serbian authorities to look into them. They’re also calling on the government to provide medical help to those affected.
The officials urge the authorities in Serbia to avoid using violence against protesters and to listen to their demands.
They’re willing to travel to Serbia and discuss these issues with local leaders.
