**Columbia University’s Interim President Resigns**
Katrina Armstrong has resigned as the interim president of Columbia University, just one week after she agreed to change several university policies. The changes were made to satisfy demands from the Trump Administration.
Armstrong had been serving as president since August, following the resignation of her predecessor. The previous president stepped down due to criticism over handling protests against Israel’s military operation in Gaza.
The Trump Administration had criticized Columbia for tolerating antisemitism and harassing Jewish students. As a result, they withheld $400 million in federal funding from the university. Additionally, the administration has been targeting those involved in campus protests by deportation.
**New President Appointed**
Armstrong will return to her former role as director of the medical centre at Columbia. She will be replaced by Claire Shipman, who serves as co-chair of the Board of Trustees.
In a statement, David J. Greenwald praised Armstrong’s work, saying she had “worked tirelessly” to advance the interests of the community. However, the university has still faced criticism for accepting demands from the Trump Administration, including a ban on wearing face masks during protests and changes to the oversight of certain academic programs.
