Georgia is Involved in a Multinational Physics Project

A group of Georgian physicists, led by Professor Revaz Shanidze from Tbilisi State University, are part of a large international project that may change our understanding of physics.

The project involves studying a special kind of particle called Neutrino. While scientists in France and Italy focus on the hardware aspect of it, the Georgian team is analyzing data about the software.

A recent lecture hosted by Terminal, a co-working space in Tbilisi, was well-attended by students interested in this field. The event was organized with the help of Ioli.Digital, Relocater, and D-Tech, which also awarded a grant to a group member, David Janezashvili.

The conference aimed to share knowledge and attract new researchers. Professor Shanidze and his team explained complex topics in an easy-to-understand way, making it accessible for attendees.

GEORGIA TODAY spoke with students from Professor Shanidze’s group about the project. Gogita Papashvili said that Neutrino is important for astrophysical research and that understanding its properties can be beneficial for energy production in the country.

Professor Shanidze explained that their team is developing software for data analysis and studying Neutrino particles with detectors. They are also working on astrophysics with Neutrinos, which can help us understand physical processes that develop there.

The conference was not the first of its kind, and it will not be the last. D-Tech has expressed their readiness to continue supporting young researchers in the future.
