The Constitutional Court of Georgia has rejected the petition for suspension of the “Law on of Influence” before the final decision of the court.
The Constitutional Court also decided to accept some lawsuits for revision.
The Constitutional Court’ Plenum reviewed the case. The members of the Plenum were (chair), Giorgi Kverenchkhiladze (member), Teimuraz Tuushi (member), Manana Kobakhidze (member), Eva Gotsiridze and Khvicha Kikilashvili. Vasil Roinishvili and Giorgi Tevdorashvili also served as members.
The President of Georgia, the Institute for the Development of of Information and Rights Georgia, the Civil Foundation and others (a combined total of 122 Plaintiffs), the MPs Cordzaia Ana Natsvlishvili Levan Bezhashvili (a combined total of 38 MPs), Network of Information Centers, and Studio Monitor have filed a suit against the .
The authors of constitutional lawsuits asked for the suspension of the validity of the disputed standards until the Constitutional Court made a final decision.
The plaintiffs claim that the very law adopted by the Georgian government is in direct conflict with the Constitutional principles and prevents Georgia from joining the European Union.
The plaintiffs claim that the terminology used in the law and other repressive measures obstruct the activities and goals of civic organizations and outlets and could lead to their termination.
