Amiran Gamkrelidze, the head of the National Center for Disease Control, stated this week that although the epidemiological situation in Georgia has improved, “it doesn’t allow us to relax.”
Gamkrelidze and other health officials are concerned about the low vaccination rates and the scepticism of the population towards vaccines.
The NCDC head noted that although the country still has 600,000 doses left of the Pfizer vaccine, the demand for it is low.
Statistics show that the average daily vaccination rate in September was over 20,000, when healthcare managers had expected it to be more than 30,000. In the last few weeks, the average daily rate of vaccination has been between 12-14,000 per days.
The Restrictions
The Interagency Coordination Council announced on Tuesday that due to an improved epidemiological situation, in-person education will resume in schools and universities as of October 4. Parents of school students will decide whether their children return to school or continue to learn online. Teachers must be prepared to meet both demands.
Since September 15, the education process has been conducted remotely.
On October 4, kindergartens and children’s entertainment centres will be allowed to reopen.
