**Journalist to be Extradited**
A court in Tbilisi, Georgia has ruled that Afghan Sadigov, a critical Azerbaijani journalist, should be extradited to Azerbaijan. The decision was made on November 28.
Sadigov had fled Azerbaijan due to political persecution and is currently on hunger strike in a Tbilisi detention center. He was hospitalized on the 17th day of his hunger strike due to deteriorating health.
**Concerns Over Safety**
The journalist’s lawyers say that if he is extradited, Sadigov will face torture and ill-treatment in an Azerbaijani prison. They claim that this is because of his journalistic activities and criticism of the Azerbaijani authorities.
**International Organizations Oppose Extradition**
Several international organizations, including Amnesty International and the OSCE, have called on Georgia not to extradite Sadigov. However, the Tbilisi City Court has approved the prosecution’s request for extradition.
**Next Steps**
Sadigov’s lawyers now have seven days to file a lawsuit with the Court of Appeal. If the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court also rule in favor of extradition, it is likely that Sadigov will be sent back to Azerbaijan.
